Our 2025 Honoree Dr. Rosa Sailes

A Legacy of Education, Leadership, and Faith

Dr. Rosa Sailes is a shining example of what it means to lead with purpose, passion, and perseverance. A retired public-school teacher and administrator, Dr. Sailes holds an impressive array of academic achievements—*three* master’s degrees in education and theology, along with a Doctorate in Curriculum. Even after retiring, her thirst for knowledge and innovation led her to earn a certification in E-learning Technologies, ensuring that churches and individuals stay connected and empowered in the digital age.

Her career in education was nothing short of extraordinary. As a former high school English and communications teacher, Dr. Sailes ignited a love for learning in her students. She later took the reins of the Department of Professional Development for Chicago Public Schools, where she equipped educators with the tools and inspiration to excel in their calling. Her dedication earned her numerous honors, including recognition from the Golden Apple Foundation, the City of Chicago, and the U.S. Department of Education.

But her impact reaches far beyond the classroom. Dr. Sailes' groundbreaking research on the education of African American children in Chicago Public Schools was celebrated by the American Educational Research Association. Her insightful work on the ministry and civil rights contributions of Bishop Arthur M. Brazier earned recognition from McCormick Theological Seminary. She’s also been a sought-after speaker at national conferences and has collaborated extensively with the Illinois State Board of Education, the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards, and multiple universities as both full-time and adjunct faculty.

In 2006, Dr. Sailes expanded her influence by stepping into the publishing world. As the Director of Educational Curriculum for Urban Ministries, Inc., she authored impactful articles and books that merged her love for education and ministry. Later, she co-founded *Keys to the Kingdom Publishing*, continuing her mission to empower others through knowledge and storytelling. Her published works include *Let Her Life Speak*, which draws powerful lessons from seven Old Testament women, and *Lessons from Vashti*, where she uncovers timeless leadership principles from the Book of Esther. Her other works, *Elevate the CORE* and *Support the CORE*, challenge churches to embrace transformative Christian education, especially in the post-Covid era.

But Dr. Sailes didn’t stop there. She founded *The EZRA Project* in 2011, an initiative that has touched countless lives by providing resources and recognizing individuals who are making a difference in their churches and communities. To date, over 112 individuals have been honored for their service, and through the *Sailes Legacy Awards*—established in memory of her beloved husband, Michael Sailes—she continues to invest in the future by awarding scholarships to youth entering college and recognizing adults pursuing theological education. In 2023, The EZRA Project expanded its mission to honor African Americans who have reached the remarkable milestone of 100 years of life.

Dr. Sailes also serves as an associate minister at the Apostolic Church of God, where her leadership left an indelible mark. For 20 years, she led the church’s Sunday Morning Bible Study program, nurturing the spiritual growth of over 1,000 adults and children each week. She also developed and directed the annual children’s program for the church’s conventions, creating meaningful experiences that shaped the faith journeys of countless young lives.

Whether she’s standing at a pulpit, leading a classroom, or mentoring future leaders, Dr. Rosa Sailes embodies a life of unwavering commitment, compassion, and excellence. Her work continues to uplift communities, transform hearts, and inspire others to walk boldly in their calling. Through her tireless efforts, Dr. Sailes reminds us all that education and faith, when united, have the power to change the world.
